Nevada’s Leading Hemp Fiber Manufacturer and Supplier
We began our journey into hemp by growing fiber and seed varietals. It was these very varietals that had a hand in shaping colonial America. The United States relied heavily upon hemp to provide the nation with essential items like paper and rope, until lobbying efforts launched by competitive textiles groups succeeded in making it illegal to grow in the 1930’s. With the passing of the 2014 farm bill, it once again became legal to cultivate cannabis sativa, and the founders of Western States Hemp began their dream of producing a commodity that could, very literally, leave the planet a better place. Since our inauguration, we’ve planted fiber varietals, because we believe these varietals will provide alternative solutions for many non-biodegradable and/or toxic products that currently permeate our culture and retail market. We grow between 1-3 different fiber varietals each season, and have the ability to grow specific fiber varietals for clients under contract. We invite you to reach out to us if you are in the market to purchase fiber biomass, or to begin the planning for a contract grow.
Western States Hemp takes pride in how beneficial the hemp fibers can be not only because of its traits, but how it can also lessen the plastic waste and help our environment.
Hemp Fiber Applications
Our fiber varietals yield a number of different components that have a place in retail and industrial products.
Flower– Potential CBD extraction (low levels) and animal feed
Seed– Hemp oil (nutraceutical/food/beverage), Hemp seed cakes (can be converted to hemp protein powder)
Stalk– Bast (out layer) provides long fibers used in rope and yarn (textiles), Hurd is the woody inner core that can be used in hempcrete, wood particle board, animal bedding, nano-cellulose
Hemp crops are high-yield crops that produce more fibers than cotton or flax, per acre. Hemp fiber is one of the most strong, valuable, and resourceful parts of the hemp plant, growing from 3 ft to as tall as 15 ft. Hemp fiber manufacturers take bast fibers from the hemp stalk for its longevity, strength, and permeable traits and then cut them into shorter pieces.
This application has been used throughout history, beginning with sail canvases, and now it is being used for hemp rope and twine, fabrics, industrial materials, and more.
